Some CD Reviews

I convinced that college leads to isolation from the music world. Not having KROCK to tell me what to listen to is driving me crazy. In addition, I am apparently not buying many cds these days, so my cd reviews have been totally random. However since my last cd review update I have bought 3 new cds: Head Automatica – Decadence, Kaiser Chiefs – Employment, and Jack Johnson – In Between Dreams.

Last semester Greg sent me the file for Head Automatica’s fist single “Beating Heart Baby,” which is quite the good song. A few week ago I was at the local Coconuts and I noticed the album in the used section. Being that it was at a cheep price, I decided that it would be a good buy. After listening to the whole album, I proved myself correct. I don’t really know much about them, other then the lead singer is the former Glassjaw singer. This band sounds noting like them. Head Automatic is kinda dance rock. The album has a little different sound to it then the sound it has on “Beating Heart Baby” Anyway, I like it so, I am going to give Head Automatica’s Decadence a 7 out 10.

Recently I was flipping through the dials on my TV and I noticed a new MTV channel, MTVU. This is supposed to be a channel for college students and I think it is only offered on college campuses. Well the first video I saw on this channel was the Kaiser Chiefs video for “I Predict A Riot” The song is very catchy. From what I know, the Kaiser Chiefs are English or Scottish or something. They sound kinda like the Killers, but It is still pretty different. They are tearing up the charts in London according to Krock.com. I am not a huge fan of the album, but it’s pretty solid and it has been selling like crazy, so I am going to give Employment by the Kaiser Chiefs a 7 as well.

I heard Jack Johnson’s new single “Sitting, Waiting, Wishing” on the radio while I was on vacation and I immediately went to the store to buy the whole album. In Between Dreams is Jack Johnson’s third release and it is quite a good one. Again, this is not a typical selection that I would make and just can’t figure out why I like this dude so much. Johnson wrote all the material on the album and he plays acoustic guitar on every track. It kinda has a John Mayer sound to it, but it is much more folk like. He seems like such a mellow guy. Every song is as good as the next. I am going to give Jack Johnson’s In Between Dreams a 9.

I would also like to talk about Weezer. Weezer’s new single ‘Beverly Hills” has been released and can be found here: I would not say that I am disappointed with the single, but I don’t think it’s there finest work. In a interview Scott said that this song was highly pushed by the record company because of its catchyness. The video was filmed at the Playboy Mansion and will be premier all day tomorrow on MTV2. The rest of the album is supposed to sound similar to Pinkerton and it is due out May 10th. I am very pissed off that I did not get tickets to either of their shows in the city. I was recently on vacation in Myrtle Beach as I mention before, so I had no access to my e-mail. If anyone has extra ticket please let me know, I am very interested.

  1. those reviews were better than anything I have ever read in Rolling Stone. Im serious…although I don’t really think that says a lot.

  2. Darryl Palumbo is the lead singer of both GlassJAw & Head Automatica. While there have been rumors of GJ breaking up, nothing has been confirmed & they only reason they hardly ever go on tour or cancel a lot of dates is because Darryl has Crohn’s Disease which means he has to go and get surgery rather often.

Also, I’m giving myself full credit for you buying this album because if it wasn’t for me, Greg would have never sent you the single.

  3. sounds good
