Green Day

Hello everyone, as I had promised I am back with a review of the Green Day concert. The show was at the new Binghamton Events Center (very original name as you can see), it was the third major concert at the events center this year, the first being Incubus and the second, Bob Dylan. The event started out very poorly. Everyone got an e-mail saying that the doors would open at 7pm, so I assumed that 6pm would be a good time to arrive. By the time I had arrived with my friends we were ridiculously far back, much further back then I was on the Incubus line. So, about 15 into my wait it started to pour, I was soaking wet and really pissed off. That was just the beginning; at about 6:45 it started hailing. It felt as if I was getting pelted with golf balls. I eventually got into the Events Center at 7:30, soaking wet and freezing cold. I went to dry my clothes with the hand drying devices that were in the bathroom, but there was a huge line and I only got like 2 minutes. Anyway, enough of my bitching and on with the review of the actual concert. My Chemical Romance opened the showed. They were a disappointment if you ask me. They opened with Helena and closed with I’m Not Okay. They interacted with the crowd well but they sounded like shit and lead singer, Gerard Way could not pronounce Binghamton. I was anticipating a really good show by them, but they had a short set and their whole performance in general was disappointing. I was not expecting a great show from Green Day, I don’t know why, maybe it was because I was pissed off with the weather. When Green Day finally came out, they blew me away. I truly believe that this was one of the greatest shows I have ever seen. I know I say this a lot, but this time I really mean it. They opened with American Idiot, they song sounded even more energetic then it does on the album. They closed their performance with Minority. They played Boulevard of Broken Dreams, We Are The Champions (Queen song), and Good Riddance for their encore performance. I was expecting a lot of stuff off the new politically charged album, American Idiot, but I would say that they played a very good balance of the new and the old. This is why I thought the show was so great. They opened with American Idiot and they proclaimed George W. Bush to be the biggest asshole and the face of the Earth. Then they played songs like Basket Case and Longview, which took me back to when I was 8 years old and listening to Dookie. Aside from the music they had pyrotechnics and many a movie type screen behind them. Billie Joe interacted with the crowd really well. He even pulled 3 people up on stage and had them play in their place. So, soaking wet and upset, I found Green Day’s show at the Binghamton Events Center to be one of the best concerts I have ever seen in my life.

  1. I’ve seen My Chem live before and I thought they were good.

  2. The Green Day show at Binghamton was to say the least, a huge letdown. Green Day became very concerned with crowd interaction, which really disrupted the flow of the show. Green Day’s energy comes from their distorted power chords, not the crowd yelling HEY, by getting the crowd involved, they toned down the atmosphere, and their songs couldn’t get things going again when they actually began to play them. They played too much off American Idiot. They failed to understand that when they play to college kids, these people are the ones that have liked them since Dookie, and they would prefer to hear their older stuff. They then proceeded to use pyrotechnics to cover up their aging performance. When I saw Green Day 3 years ago, Billy Joe declared himself to be the King of Punk Rock. Oddly enough, he failed to make this declaration at yesterday’s show. I think Billy Joe knows his time is coming to end and fresh faces like Jesse Lacey, and Adam Lazzara are ready to take the crown.

  4. I kinda felt that too at times, their crowd interaction seemed a but lengthy at times. But, I would still say that Billie Joe is the King of Punk Rock and he always will be.

  5. A) You can’t see Adam Lazzara’s face anymore from all his hair.
    B) Sadly, there have been rumors circulating about Brand New breaking up which are only being fueled by the fact that they cancelled their date at Bamboozle. Le sigh.

  6. Sheppard Says:

Wow that sucks I was looking forward to more good albums from Brand New.

  7. Adam Lazzara cut all his hair

  8. Jesse had surgery.

way to get my hopes up cassie.

  9. When someone cancels a date for a big show, they can’t be like oh we’re debating breaking up. They come up with excuses. Jesse got his appendix taken out a couple of weeks ago. I’ve seen him since. He looked fine.

  10. nice!
