Oasis Concert

Do you ever get the feeling that you have just done something incredible or witnessed something amazing? I had that feeling tonight when I went to see Oasis at Madison Square Garden. I felt like it was a modern day version of the Beatles show at Shea Stadium. Anyway, Jet opened the show. I was expecting a little more from Jet then what they actually did. The opened with a lame edition of Cold Hard Bitch. It just seemed like they were going through the motions. They played for a little less then an hour and most of their debut album, Get Born. After they played Look What You’ve Done they received a bit of a crowd reaction. They then seemed to be more into their performance. So, Jet was a bit disappointing, but Oasis came out and surprised the hell out of me. Oasis opened with the first track on their new album, Turn Up the Sun. They then continued to play a slew of new songs off their new album. You could tell the sold out crowd was getting a little weary because they wanted to hear the old classics, but I was content with the new songs. I think the guys have changed considerably since their early days. Aside from the non-stable lineup, Liam and Noel seemed to have a bit better chemistry. They also made sure to make the crowd aware of Zak Starkey, the new drummer who also happens to be Ringo Starr’s son. They didn’t have any of those MTV unplugged moments, if you know what I’m talking about. Anyway, as time wore on they started to play some old stuff like Cigarettes and Alcohol and Live Forever. The crowd then got really into it. You could barely hear Liam singing. They then moved on with some tracks off their best album, like What’s the Story (Morning Glory) and Champagne Supernova. They seemed to avoid their 3rd through 5th albums. I was a little disappointed that they didn’t play anything off their third album, Be Here Now. It was the encore that was purely amazing. The second song was Wonderwall, which is the song that started the Oasis craze in the mid 90s. They then proceeded with Don’t Look Back In Anger which sent chills up my spine. Watching Noel step away from his microphone and the crowd sing the chorus in unison was amazing. I felt like I was a 10-year-old kid again, pretending to be Liam Gallagher. Maybe, just maybe Oasis is the Beatles of today. I mean really how many bands could sell out Madison Square Garden and have the whole crowd on their feet singing every word of every song. I also have to say that Noel Gallagher is the most talented musician to arise in the last two decades. This concert was truly was something special and I will remember it for the rest of my life.

  1. i found the oasis concert to be phenomenal considering i was in the front row, thanks to mark piros obsessive calling in krock for tickets habits. also, mark got his album signed by noel, which everyone in MSG witnessed. my only complaint, is that there is little experimentation on stage, they only play what they play in the studio. if noel and liam could keep a stable band together it would help tremendously in the hopes of forming a musically tight unit, all and all it was good, not the best show ive seen, but not the worst

  2. that must have been awsome being in the front row
