October’s Music

I sit here crying over the current state of the weather in Binghamton. We have not a flag football game in four weeks because of constant rain and today is the semester debut of the snow. Clearly, October is way too early for snow. Anyway, I figured that I would take this time to update you on some of the music I have picked up this last month. Yea so this month I have Franz Ferdinand You Could Have It So Much Better and Nickelback All The Right Reasons. I picked both of them up over Rosh Hashanah break, so I have had plenty of time to listen to every track.

Franz Ferdinand’s sophomore release You Could Have It So Much Better is not quite as good as their debut album, but it is still pretty damn good. The album opens with The Fallen basically a Robin Hood type story, where they talk about stealing and destroying rich people things. I find it quite humorous, but not quite as funny as Do You Want To. Perhaps Do You Want To is the stupidest song ever written, but hey it’s funny and it has some pretty nifty keyboards. That what’s Franz Ferdinand does best, however there are a few songs on the album when the guys slow down. Walk Away, Eleanor Put Your Boots Back On, and Fade Together. At first I was not a fan of these songs, because I was looking for the more traditional Franz Ferdinand sound, but I have learned to appreciate them as well. My favorite of these three is Walk Away I especially like the live acoustic version they have on the dvd side of the disk. So, in conclusion I am going to give Franz Ferdinand’s You Could Have It So Much Better a 9.

Nickelback’s latest release All The Right Reasons features the new single Photograph. Typically I would say that this is a sell out song, but I’m not going to say that because the rest of the album has plenty of hard rock. Follow You Home the first track opens with an excellent drum solo and a great bass line. Another one of my personal favorites is Rockstar where Kroger sings of how we all want to be famous. I would not be surprised if this is the next single because it is also on the lighter side. The guitar playing on the album is a little inferior though. It is not very catchy and it is not original in any way. Aside from the lame guitar, not bad for a band whose first two albums I was not thrilled with. I give All The Right Reasons a 7.

Stay tuned for next month. I am very anxious to hear the new Darkness album.
