The Kick Is Up . . . Fuck!

So, after the Cowboys got dismantled by the Redskins last week, it seemed as if they chances at the playoffs had all but faded. The only thing they can really do is go out and win and hope that other teams lose. So, that’s what they did. Julius Jones was the star of the game, breaking off multiple long runs and racking up a total of 194 yards. Now, this is the Julius we all know, hopefully he is back to form and he continues to play this well. I would say that the Cowboys (as a team) played a great game, but the special teams performed rather horribly. If you did not see the game Billy Cundiff attempted three field goals. The first he made with ease, however the second was blocked because Julius Peppers was allowed to fly right up the middle. I am going to guess and hope that this was due to the absence of Marco Rivera, who will be returning next week. With that said, on Cundiff’s third attempt, the same exact thing happened. Peppers came right up the middle and cause Cundiff to shank his attempt, however Peppers continued to run into Cundiff and he was called for roughing the kicker. The Cowboys then got a new set of downs and eventually scored a touchdown. So, the Cowboys won, but I would say that they got pretty damn lucky.

I was scoreboard watching more this week then I ever have before. With their win, the Cowboys desired losses from Washington, Tampa Bay, and Minnesota. Washington rolled over the Giants, much like they did to the Cowboys. The Giants are not a good team and they do not deserve to be in the playoffs. Tampa Bay also won in overtime against Atlanta because they blocked a field goal attempt by Feely. This is officially the week of the blocked field goal. So, Atlanta is eliminated and Tampa Bay clinched a spot. Minnesota plays tomorrow. So, assuming that Minnesota wins, the Cowboys, Redskins, and Vikings will be tied for the last playoff spot going into next week. If all three teams win, the Redskins will make the playoffs. If the Redskins lose and the Cowboys and Vikings win, the Cowboys will make it. For the Vikings to get in, they need losses from both the Cowboys and Redskins. However, the tables can really turn if Atlanta beats Carolina next week. Then the Cowboys could get in over them, due to the outcome of today’s game. So, a lot can happen and the Cowboys have the Sunday night game next week, so we will know exactly what they face or if they can even get in the playoffs before the game starts.

  1. You should have mentioned San Francisco’s win. I’m not sure how the tie-breakers work and stuff, but the Jets could conceivably move up in the draft order.

  2. Yea, I probably should have. This post was very NFC playoff senario oriented.
