Spring Semester ‘06
Here’s my list of top 10 albums so far this year. I didn’t includes EPs, which explains the absence of Voxtrot.
1. Mogwai – Mr. Beast
2. Islands – Return to the Sea
3. I Love You But I’ve Chosen Darkness – Fear Is On Our Side
4. Jenny Lewis and The Watson Twins – Rabbit Fur Coat
5. The Fiery Furnaces – Bitter Tea
6. Destroyer – Destroyer’s Rubies
7. Belle and Sebastian – The Life Pursuit
8. Band of Horses – Everything All The Time
9. Neko Case – Fox Confessor Brings The Flood
10. Goldfrapp – Supernature
Will move into the top five: Tool – 10,000 Days (Note: I have heard zero tracks from this album. I am basing this on… well, nothing.)

mr beast was good, islands was fun but i dont think i could stomach it again, i should really listen to ilybicd, i cant stand jenny lewis, fuck the furnaces, rubies is awesome, b&s are terrible, should listen to band of horses, no interest in neko, and who is goldfrapp?
a quick glance at my 2006 albums list, and i’ll pick some notables:
asob, bexar bexar (this will grow on me), la quiete, the ladies, mogwai, sunset rubdown
some stuff that i liked on first listen that i should listen to again:
danielson, dresden dolls, some girls, yeah yeah yeahs
good eps:
errors, voxtrot
not worth it:
AIDS wolf
and probably some other stuff i’m forgetting.

I love how any mention of the Furnaces elicits a "fuck that band" comment from you. I’m not even kidding; it’s awesome.
Why do I love the Furnaces, the most needlessly difficult band in recent memory? I think I just have ADD-envy.
I like Belle and Sebastian, but maybe I shouldn’t have included two Scottish bands in the top 10. But, I really like that album…
I feel like I put Islands at #2 because I didn’t feel right putting any of the other albums at #2. Or even #1. I probably shouldn’t have ranked them. Meh.
I think Mono, Built to Spill, and Margot and the Nuclear So and So’s would have made the list, if I had listened to more of those albums. I should have also listened to more of Calexico, Arab Strap, The M’s, Dresden Dolls, The Sounds, Eagles of Death Metal, Field Music, and South. Also, I never listened to Mates of State. Okay, basically, I should have listened to like 30 more albums this year.
I should probably give the Secret Machines and the Yeah Yeah Yeahs another shot.
My tastes will change. Just look at my Best of 2005 list. Two of those albums I can’t even stand.

If by some freak reasoning, ASOB actually stands for Arrogant Sons of Bitches, I just lost a ridiculous amount of respect. They are absolutely horrible.
Oh, and Brand New’s CD is coming out in August/September.
And I still like the new Saves the Day.

that’s who i’m referring to, and if you think they’re horrible, that’s your issue. they’re one of the best bands LI has ever produced. great guys, too. what’s yr issue with them
